Efficacy Testing
Skin Colour Changes
Skin Lightening and Tanning (Melanin measurement).
The colour of the skin is in part due to the presence of melanin. In certain circumstances a change in skin pigmentation is desired and this can be followed using an instrument designed to specifically for melanin measurement, the Mexameter (Courage & Khazaka) or an instrument that measures skin colour according to the L*a*b* system (Chromameter, Konica – Minolta).
- 30 to 50 subjects
- Two to six weeks use of product
- Mexameter assessment before and after product use
Anti-redness/Anti-inflammatory (Erythema measurement).
The colour of the skin is also due to the presence of blood (haemoglobin). Increased erythema (redness) is associated with irritation of the skin and inflammation. In certain circumstances a reduction in erythema is sought and this can be followed using an instrument designed to specifically for erythema measurement, the Mexameter (Courage & Khazaka).
Alternatively measurement of blood flow using a laser Doppler system (Moor Instruments Ltd) may be more appropriate.
- 30 to 50 subjects
- Short period of product use
- Mexameter assessment before and after product use
- Use for anti-inflammatory claims
